Marketing Through Sports; Value of the $5M Commercial

Submitted by Mitch Seigel on Tues, 02/09/2016

By the time you read this, the big game will be two days behind us. As of the moment, it is two hours and fifty-five minutes away… Today is when your bladder must be working on all cylinders. What if the game is a good one and you also want to watch all the commercials? What a dilemma!

It’s the biggest program of the year, worldwide, and now both on live TV and digitally! Is it worth the $5 million being plucked down by advertisers for a single showing of their commercial? Don’t tell CBS or next year’s network, but it is probably worth triple that amount in additional exposure for each of the companies involved. Otherwise, they would not be paying CBS’s rates.

Each commercial has already been previewed on several TV programs, discussed on radio shows and in print articles, and best of all, has been water cooler conversation for at least a month. Now don’t get me wrong, you must be one of the largest companies to afford this investment all in 30-second intervals. Beyond that little requirement, it’s all good!

Sports Marketing grows as an industry every year because of this day. It’s like the population of California growing after people across the country watch the Rose Parade in 70 degree weather, while they are bundled up in front of the TV due to frigid temperatures outside, in their city.

As I have always said, all size businesses can take part in sports marketing. The sports you market through, is all relative to the size of your business and the target market you are trying to reach.

What are your challenges when it comes to sports marketing? I look forward to hearing your comments. Until next time…
